The Burkhart~Hedrick Engagement Shoot
I have the privilege of shooting Amanda and JB's wedding next month. We took advantage of the weather this afternoon and took some engagement pictures. Click on the images for a larger view.
I'll be posting a few more of the shots HERE as I process them.

Dropping the ball
So I started this blog to inspire me to post more pictures but it's been over a month since my last post. Here's my latest project, portrait shooting with a backdrop. I got my hands on a black velvet backdrop and have been toying around to find the best lighting and settings so that it blends in and isn't noticed. Here are some of my better results. It's a good thing Jacqueline loves to have her picture taken. The last shot was taken under the bridge at the Student Union. I thought the lines were interesting.

week four
School has really been ramping up and I didn't have time to get out and shoot that much this week. I did run down to Eureka Springs for a Traveler assignment and shot a few buildings, the one below is the Basin Hotel. I also really like the fire hydrant in front of the biochemistry building and keep telling myself to bring the camera one day, so here it is.

Week Three, on assignment

Second week... Headshots.
So a friend of mine asked me to take some shots of her for an acting workshop she will be attending. I'm used to taking portraits from my time at Sears, but I haven't done it much out of that controlled environment. I got some cheap white fabric from Walmart for the full body shots and used our green and yellow walls for the head shots. I even dropped one of my flashes on the hardwood floor and broke it. The first few shots of Jacqueline were for practice, I think they turned out quite nicely.

The first week with the 30d
Here are some of the first shots with the new Canon 30d. I also bought a 580ex flash head that can command my old 420ex wirelessly. The shot of Jacqueline and Gracie was my first attempt at the master/slave setup with the 420ex to the right, bouncing off the ceiling. The tower shot was taken at Lake Fayetteville and the other shot of Jacqueline was taken in our kitchen with the 580ex mounted on a flash bracket.
Need a little motivation
So I got a new camera for Christmas and I want to be more proactive with my photography. I hope to update this photo journal at least weekly with images, I might even tell some people about it. If you don’t know who I am, my name is Spencer Presley and I’m currently pursuing a journalism degree from the University of Arkansas with an emphases on photojournalism. I work at a portrait studio, am a staff photographer for the Arkansas Traveler and I’m starting to get into wedding photography on the side, so it’s sometimes hard to find the motivation to get out behind the camera on my own time.
